The Story of Laura Guerra, Hope Fund Grant Recipient 2011
Earlier this year, I experienced a meniscus tear in my knee which was incredibly painful. The injury was compounded by arthritis in the knee joint. I was out of work for over two months as doctors assessed my condition and tried different approaches. I was actually scheduled for surgery the next day when a physician came up with the solution for my pain – cortisone shots in my knee. The answer seems so simple now that we know but for two months I was unable to work due to a brace I was required to wear that went from my hip to my ankle. It was extremely uncomfortable and made it impossible to work. I exhausted the PTO and EIB I had built up over many years. If it wasn’t for the financial assistance from the Hope Fund, I don’t know how I would have made it. Once I reached out for help, the response was very quick and the funds were direct deposited into my bank account. This is such a wonderful benefit of working for HCA. I hope we never lose it. Thank you to all my colleagues who have made donations to the Hope Fund over the years. We never know when we might be the one who needs help.
