A Hurricane Fight for Survival
Tags:

Glenda Laws, lead pharmacist at Mission Pharmacy Blue Ridge in North Carolina, began her day as usual until a hurricane swept through her community, turning her life upside down within hours. What began as a typical day quickly escalated into a fight for survival as floodwaters caused by Hurricane Helene surged into her home. She and her family escaped to a neighbor’s house, wading through rising, fast-moving water. Though they made it to safety, the damage was devastating. Their home was no longer livable, their vehicles were lost, and their future felt uncertain.
Despite the personal crisis, Glenda showed up to work, committed to our mission of caring. Her resilience was remarkable—but she needed help too. Glenda’s HR team encouraged her to apply to the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Hope Fund was there when she needed it most. Shortly after applying, Glenda received support that helped her family meet their immediate needs—basic essentials like clothing, bedding, and supplies that had been washed away in the flood.
That support didn’t just provide relief. It restored a sense of stability and reminded Glenda that she wasn’t alone. The Hope Fund gave her family a foundation to begin rebuilding their lives. Every gift to the Hope Fund helps colleagues like Glenda recover from crisis and move forward with hope.
