Our Colleagues Empowered Amy Fight Breast Cancer with Hope
Tags:

Amy Graf has spent 12 years caring for patients at the Surgicenter of Johnson County in Overland Park, Kansas where she’s a charge nurse and coordinator in same-day surgery. She considers her workplace a second home and deeply values her team and the patients she serves.
In October 2024, Amy’s routine mammogram revealed triple-negative invasive breast cancer—despite no family history and a clean bill of health the year before. She began chemotherapy immediately, determined to keep working while raising three teenagers and managing a growing stack of medical bills.
One day, a simple “How are you?” from an administrator opened the door for Amy to share her struggle. Encouraged to apply for help, she turned to the HCA Hope Fund and received financial assistance that helped ease the burden.
After completing chemo, Amy underwent a mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. Once again, the Hope Fund was there to support her. Today, she’s free from medical debt, grateful for the kindness of colleagues she’s never met, and proud to give back to the Hope Fund to help others in need.
